Welcome to The House of Tribes’ Young People’s Summer Program page.

2004 marked the second summer of our annual youth program. Our young group of people had an educational summer learning crafts that can result in marketable skills for the future. This summer's main focus was photography, allowing students to dive deeper into the medium, trying out different techniques taught by the program’s founder, Kwame Adansi-Bona. In the past, classes on various topics have been taught, including web design with NYU Graduate, Jen Mazer, video production with producer, Yael Bitton, language and writing skills with Smooth and Mambo dancing with dancer Fernando Gonzales a.k.a Cuban Smooth. This summer we took on a small group of young people to continue our program, and we all became like family. Each of the teachers are professionals in their fields and were able to pass on their expertise with hands on application and a dialogue with the youngsters that brought on a casual exchange. The classes lasted for six weeks culminating in a gallery showing in August of their photographic works and this link to their web pages. Obviously with all that we taught, there is still so much more to learn so that classes will continue on weekends during the fall.

After the success of last summer, We are so happy that we’ve been able to further the program with such brilliant young minds. The more time we spent with the students, the hungrier they became for knowledge. They are like sponges soaking up everything around them and it’s nice to know that in this environment, what they were soaking up was some very nutritious food for the mind.

I hope that you will take the time to look at their web pages and galleries. They worked very hard on them and we are proud. Anyone wishing to find out more about our summer program please call Dominique at 212-477-0735.

*Classes in photography and mambo dancing will also be offered in the fall for young people and adults.

*We welcome and greatly appreciate your donations. Please make all checks payable to A Gathering of The Tribes, 272 E. 7th Street, NYC 10009.
