Shaina Morales

These images were taken by SHAINA MORALES 12 years old, under the instruction of Kwame Adansi-Bona. Shaina was a second year summer student at The House Of Tribes. This summer we focused on digital photography and application. Shaina Morales is interested in the rights of others, for a very young lady she is socially astute. By her admission her favorite channel on television is CNN. She aspires to be a lawyer so that she can champion the rights of others. With this in mind we thought that it would be useful for Shaina to move around people. July 19, 2004 marked a day of protest, where fire fighters, police and teachers hit the streets in an effort to inform the public of their greivances. Shaina read up on the details of the information picket and we headed to Penn Station which is also the sight of the Republican Convention. Shaina interviewed several of the picketers and documented the event with digital photographs some of which are in this display. We also contacted the office of Johnny Cochran where we spoke to Keith Kleinick who is working on Shaina’s next assignment which will be to interview Mr. Cochran or an associate for her webpage.

In addition to Shaina’s photo-journalism we also see the beauty of life in “Birds” and “Nature”. Shaina is a very inquisitve young lady who is not affraid to ask probing questions. As you will find in her interview for a young girl her age she asks well informed questions and you can see that she ponders the answer before aksing the next. The House Of Tribes’ Summer Program wishes to teach skills and application so that our students walk away with an understanding of the many uses of their new found skills.
